If I Had the Morning
I would stand upon the edge of the sea,
and face the wind, and watch the gulls
dance in the silver sky, and I would breathe
the salt and taste the mist, and declare
that I am timeless.
And as the day grows longer and the sun
has climbed high enough, I would fall asleep
along the cliffs, and listen to the sweep
of gulls who sail above my aging
heart that longs for another
day like this.

David W. Berner observes the richness in the everyday, the glory of nature, the magnificence in the ordinary, and the mystery that is the human spirit. Through curious eyes, Berner keenly notices the delicate nuances among the seemingly mundane and the abundant mysteries of nature, of the divine, and the beauty of being wholly awake to the magic that is often hiding in shaded corners.
