A Poem by Anna Ojascastro Guzon

Refracting

There is nothing that I am

more acutely aware of

than you. The water in your

eyes, the movement of your

brow when you are

overcome by a rhyme or

the refraction of light

on your chair. You are taller

than the counter now. You

used investigate in

a sentence. You still don’t

comprehend the word

kill. How you

purse your lips. How you

hold your pencil. How

the presence of a moth is

worth announcement to

the neighbors. I am more

aware of you than

the surface of my skin. You

are the hairs that stand on end

when I am seated

and I am hearing

what I did not know.
