A Poem by Yvette J. Green

Choreograph the Poem

Move in free verse

with your hips

wide, full, feminine

Part your lips to mark time

the hips carry the narratives

listen to

the feminine

the moment has to be held

and carefully passed down and passed on.

Hold something of home in your hips,

the feminine

will reveal exactly what to

remember

the accumulated sounds of communal memory

rest in the body

Immerse yourself in the language of the dance

listen to the sequence

Orchestrate your movements

with the score

that you write

from your hips

learn the counts 2-3-4

Watch how the feminine moves

the accent is in your pelvis

the rhythm is in the dialogue

the beat tells the story

consult the score,

write the dance

Do not edit yourself

Embrace the feminine

follow your hips in order to

Choreograph the poem
