Abscission

As a leaf myself I sometimes wish
to be glued to the mother-branch
knowing I will detach, float, and glow
briefly on the dark sidewalk,
relinquish my individuality
to the treesome Unconscious
reflecting the sky back to October.

Kathy (K. Alma) Peterson is a painter and poet. Her paintings are abstract mixed media. She has a Studio Arts minor BA from the University of Minnesota. Her MFA in Poetry is from the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College. She has published two books of poetry with Blaze Vox Books: Is There No Interlude When Light Sprawls the Fen (2010) and The Last Place I Lived (2015). Her poems have been widely published in online and print journals. She is a native Minnesotan who now lives in Florida, and spends summers in Minnesota.
