A Poem by Galen Steele

Trying to Remember

…..

I just heard a poem

and I’m trying to write it down

verbatim from memory.

….

So far I only remember

three words:

body, pencil, and Jesus.

…..

Maybe not in that particular order.

….

I assume Jesus could write with a pencil

if they had yellow number twos

with pink erasers back then.

Certainly Jesus had a body,

and if I was nearby

I’d probably poke him constantly

…..

just like I poke my wife

at night to make sure

she is still there.

…..

This poem is from the book Five Things by Galen Steele (Finishing Line Press), and can be found at https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/five-things-by-galen-steele/

Galen swelled with pride when his dad described him as a “jack of all trades,” but felt a little sting when he learned the end of the phrase is, “master of none.” Nonetheless it may be fitting for someone who finds his greatest inspiration at the edges of things: where math meets nature, where religion meets hardship, where joy meets monotony. @galensteelepoetry
