A Poem by Christian Garduno

Fault Lines

There’s an idealized version of you I have in my mind
prolly my memory’s fault
it’s gauzy and slightly out of focus
there was like a layer between us and the world
we had own cadence
it was so kinetic

You said—play that playlist you always play
I blushed while you mixed your drink in the kitchen
the melody lines blurred and I slipped over the edge
you throw your head back when you really laugh
and your whole face changes
I’m completely transfixed

Our skins touched
and you took out your barrettes
your profile is porcelain
my face is flushed
your bangs are in my eyelashes
and the night turns translucent
