The Crack
Those drowsy mornings, sun’s
blaze in the eye,
hot tinder in the mind –
sleep’s narcotic fog, a blot
burst through –
needle through gauze.
Still groggy from the stupor
of a thousand wanton nights,
I wonder:
when at last
will the curtain draw back?
When will I awake?
