A Poem by  Amrita Skye Blaine

tumblers

when the gateways

all line up,

when I feel safe

and seen,

that sawtooth edge,

the life-shaped key,

clicks tumblers

one two three…

channels clear

love is freed

to flow with ease—

the magic trick,

the sleight-of-hand

not to lock again

……

This poem is from the book every riven thing by Amrita Skye Blaine (Finishing Line Press), and can be found at https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/every-riven-thing-by-amrita-skye-blaine/

The poems in every riven thing are a spare and elegant meditation on life and how to welcome it—openly and with love. From the singing bridge of the poet’s childhood, considering the “what if” games of the mind, how misunderstanding is like a thorn, these personal and profound poems bring us home to echoes of awe and silence.

Amrita lives in Sebastopol, California with her husband, Boudewijn Boom, and their dog, Jazz, who often shows up in her poems.
